Consulting Rooms

Dr Young’s main practice is located at Suite 213b, St John of God Specialist Suites, 25 McCourt Street, Subiaco WA 6008, and he also has rooms at other metropolitan and regional centres. Consultation times are provided on making a booking.

Fees

You may incur an out-of-pocket expense for any surgery performed privately. Any out-of-pocket costs will be provided to you upon booking your surgery. Dr Young’s secretaries are more than happy to discuss this further with you should you have any questions regarding this.

Recently the Government and the Medicare taskforce made significant alterations to the schedule of medicare benefits. This is the fee for individual procedures or ‘items’ set out by the government since Medicare’s inception. 

Ostensibly this reform was to rationalise the schedule but the most recent changes led to the removal of more than 900 items. 

While we have attempted to absorb the costs, it has become necessary to charge a fee to manage the additional outpatient requirement for many procedures.

The outpatient fee varies with the complexity of the procedure. It never exceeds 500 dollars. It ensures that you are taken care of. For the first six weeks post surgery all prescriptions for post operative medications will be provided. The fee includes all post operative checks for the first 6 weeks, as many as required. Any paperwork or certificates you require will also be provided by the rooms to avoid you needing to visit your General practitioner (unless that is you and your GP’s preference). 

This fee is for outpatient services and is not a surgical gap.

Initial consult is $250 and $84.15 can be claimed back from medicare with a referral. Follow up consults are $120 and $42.30 can be claimed back from medicare. Our staff will organise the rebate for you directly so no additional trips are required.

Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Insurance Commission and Dept. of Veterans Affairs accounts are sent directly to the insurer and no fee is charged.

The cost breakdown will be explained at time of booking surgery. If you would like further explanation please feel free to ask any questions. The fee structure is complex due to state and federal regulation. 

Workcover

Workers compensation injuries benefit from early assessment and intervention. Clear documentation and communication between treating team members and the patients’ injury management advisor and their insurer/employer is important.

We endeavour to prioritise workplace injury referrals. Letters and documents will be provided to your referrer pending the urgency.

Sam works with a team of allied health professionals who are all experienced in musculoskeletal care and understand the specific needs of workplace injury management.

Injury management advisors provide a crucial link in communication and support. IMA’s are encouraged to attend consultations where possible. 

Legal representation is often required for these injuries. Sam can provide reports to your solicitor or can provide you with advice and direction should you need one.

Trauma & Emergency Surgery

For many emergencies you are better off being managed in the public system. These include infections and multiple bone injuries. This means, however that the public system with its limited resources can have significant delays.
