Dr Sam Young Orthopaedic Surgeon Perth

Sam Young is an Australian and internationally triple fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon. He specialises in joint replacement, sports reconstructive surgery and trauma of the hip, knee and shoulder.

Sam grew up in Manjimup in the states’ south west on the family farm. He left to attend medical school at the University of WA and then completed advanced orthopaedic training through the Western Australian programme.

Completing his specialist qualifications in 2014, Sam undertook fellowships in Australia and North America. Initially travelling to Canberra, he had advanced training with Professor Paul Smith in lower limb reconstruction as well as pelvic and acetabular fracture surgery. Following this Sam went to Brisbane to work with Professor Ross Crawford with a special focus on hip and knee revision surgery and robotic assisted surgery. Here Sam assisted Professor Crawford with Australia’s first robotic assisted hip replacement. Keen for international experience, Sam undertook fellowship training in London, Ontario at the University Hospital Canada. This centre is one of the highest volume joint replacement centres in North America and publishes extensively on the subject. Sam gained the North American approach to joint replacement and furthered skills in direct anterior hip replacement surgery and complex revision arthroplasty.

Sam returned to Perth in 2017. He is a consultant surgeon to Royal Perth Hospital where he is Director of pelvic and acetabular fracture surgery. He also performs joint replacement and sports surgery including complex revision procedures and tumour reconstruction.
